9 QUESTION TYPES
1. Big picture questions
- About author's POV / primary purpose of the passage, and rhetorical strategy
2. Little picture/ Detail questions
- About specific small detail in a passage/ might ask phrase in passage
3. Inference questions
- Make a logical assumption(statement, implication, conclusion) based on the detail in the passage
4. Function questions
- Figure out what the purpose or effect of a line or paragraph in a context/ or why author used a certain phrase
5. Vocabulary in context Questions
- Definition of a word as it is used in the context of a passage
6. Analogy questions
- Make a comparison between a condition or relationship described in the passage and a condition or relationship that is not mentioned in the passage
- Detect the similarity between something in the passage and a separate hypothetical situation
7. Author Technique questions
- The author’s tone in the the passage or the mood the passage conveys to the reader
8. Data Reasoning questions
- Need to interpret the data in the figure and place it in the context of the overall passage
9. Evidence Support questions
- Cite evidence that supports your answer to the previous question you answered.

- A good skimming strategy is to read
the first and last paragraphs and the first and last sentences of each body paragraph
